Dr. Stefan Zimmer was trained as an officer in the German Air Force before studying
economics, sociology and political sciences in Germany and the USA.
After graduating in 1996 he worked for the German Department of Defense as press
and public relations officer.
From 1999 to 2001 he was pursuing his doctoral studies and teaching industrial
sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, USA.
In 2001 he joined the Federation of German Accident Insurance Funds (HVBG) as
Executive Assistant to the Director General.
Since 2004 Dr. Zimmer is the head of HVBG’s International Social Policy
Unit, responsible for international cooperation.
He holds a Ph.D. in social sciences from the University of the Federal Armed Forces,
Germany.
Dr. Zimmer has published two books on industrial relations and several articles
on social policy and social security issues.
